HAMILTON, ON –/COMMUNITYWIRE/– With a strike deadline set for August 21st, the roughly 3,000 inside and outside municipal workers who are members of CUPE Local 5167, are ramping up their efforts by holding a rally to call on the City of Hamilton to raise their wages.

“We care about the services we deliver for the residents of Hamilton and we’d really rather continue working, but what the City of Hamilton is offering just isn’t good enough,” said Jay Hunter, President of CUPE Local 5167. “Now we have a deadline for the City to come back with a real offer, otherwise the City leaves us no choice but to take strike action.”

By holding a rally at City Hall, they’re intending to send a message to City Council directly. There is one remaining mediation date on the 18th.

Jay Hunter, President of CUPE Local 5167;
Fred Hahn, President of CUPE Ontario;
Yolanda McClean, Secretary-Treasurer of CUPE Ontario;
Mark Hancock, President of CUPE National;
Laura Walton, President of OSBCU;
Anthony Marcos, President of the Hamilton and District Labour Council; and
Matthew Green, NDP Member of Parliament, Hamilton Centre.

What:
CUPE Local 5167, representing roughly 3,000 inside and outside workers in Hamilton, days away from potentially being on strike or being locked out over wages, is holding a rally to call on the City to get back to the bargaining table with a better offer.
