BELLEVILLE, ON –/COMMUNITYWIRE/– Join Belleville city workers, represented by Local 907 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 907), for a rally in support of a fair contract that will keep Belleville running. Due to provincial COVID-19 restrictions the in-person rally will be limited to fewer than 100 participants.
Marshalls from CUPE Local 907 will be on hand to ensure the rally remains within the 100-person limit and that participants wear masks and maintain social distancing. People are also encouraged to show support by joining a car rally, which will meet at 158 Front St. and depart on a route that will circle City Hall via Pinnacle and McAnnany streets.
“We want to give people the opportunity to show their support in the safest way possible,” said Marc Goulet, president of CUPE Local 907. “We want to show the people of Belleville that we have been here for them throughout this pandemic and we want to continue to be out there working hard to keep Belleville running. Our goal is to negotiate a fair contract that respects frontline workers. It’s time for the mayor and council to stop playing games and make sure that we can get a deal done.”
Joining Marc Goulet at the rally will be Laura Walton, President of CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU) and resident of Belleville. The OSBCU represents over 55,000 education workers across Ontario.
