GUELPH, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– The Canadian Union of Public Employees is alarmed about 39 PSWs facing layoffs amid a staffing crunch at Guelph General Hospital. The union says these cuts are part of a growing pattern in the sector as hospitals look to address ballooning deficits due to government underfunding.
On Monday morning, CUPE 57 and the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU-CUPE) will be holding a demonstration outside Guelph General to protest the layoffs. Hospital workers and community allies will initially assemble at Zehrs at 297 Eramosa Road at 11 a.m. and march to the hospital.
