MEDICINE HAT, AB –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– The annual convention of the Alberta Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Alberta) will take place next week in Medicine Hat, Alberta from March 20-22.
Approximately 200 delegates are expected to participate in discussion and planning. President Rory Gill expects wages to be a significant issue of concern.
“With record high inflation, following years of very low wage growth, workers in Alberta are demanding more at the bargaining table,” said Gill. “Wage growth in Alberta is well below inflation and below other provinces. Pretty soon, the ‘Alberta Advantage’ will be gone, and other provinces will have higher wages than Alberta.”
Highlights of the convention include:
Wednesday, March 20
11:00 am Rory Gill, President CUPE Alberta
Thursday, March 21
2:30 pm Mark Hancock, President of CUPE
Friday, March 22
10:00 am NDP leader Rachel Notley
