BLACK RIVER-MATHESON, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– Fourteen full-time municipal workers, members of CUPE Local 1490, have been on strike since October 15, 2023. Today they’re holding a community event with free BeaverTails when Black River-Matheson shut the Township office down for the day and turned the scheduled in-person council meeting into a virtual one.
They’re doing this alongside two other union locals, CUPE Local 416, representing outside municipal workers in Toronto, and OPSEU/SEFPO Local 631, representing locked out workers from nearby Timmins.
