CENTRAL ELGIN, ON – Thirty-four municipal workers in Central Elgin, members of CUPE Local 35.3, are approaching a strike deadline of March 11. On Monday, February 26, they’re heading to the Township’s council meeting to make their voices heard.
Despite the making very reasonable demands around wages, benefit enhancements, and fighting two-tier concessions, the Employer is pushing things towards a potential labour disruption, the union says.
The union is making it clear that they’re prepared to go out on the picket line, if necessary, with 97% of the members voting in favour of a strike, because they know that Council’s approval of a zero percent tax increase should not be paid for on their backs.
