BLACK RIVER-MATHESON, ON –(COMMUNITYWIRE)– Fourteen full-time municipal workers, members of CUPE Local 1490, have been on strike since October 15.
The key issue is wages, specifically the fact that the Township is trying to force a new wage grid that slashes wages for new members. When changes in the Township’s proposed wage grid and high inflation are factored in, new members of Local 1490 will earn on average, $3.08 less/hour (or 10.76% less).
On Tuesday afternoon, these striking workers will be joined by CUPE Local 416, representing City of Toronto outside municipal workers, for a rally.
