RED DEER, AB –/COMMUNITYWIRE/– Support staff employees at Red Deer Catholic Schools (and other supporters) will hold a protest at a board meeting Monday morning. The protest is regarding the district’s edict that employees cannot wear purple in protest of their poor wages.
Protesters will be wearing purple.
School support staff in Alberta have been holding province-wide ‘purple shirt days’ to highlight the fact most staff have not had a wage increase in eight years. The average wage for support staff is $34,300 with Educational Assistants earning just $26,400.
