KINGSTON, ON –/COMMUNITYWIRE/– As the provincial government moves ahead with privatization of hospital services, health care workers represented by CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU/CUPE) are taking a stand to defend the public, not-for-profit system.
On Monday September 25, Kingston hospital workers represented by CUPE 1974, and their community allies will be travelling to the Ontario Health Coalition’s rally at Queen’s Park in Toronto.
Barb DeRoche, president of CUPE 1974, is available for media interviews today to comment on workers’ frustration with the provincial government’s mismanagement of the health care system and their resolve to fight against privatization.
In May, thousands of Kingston Health Sciences Centre workers represented by CUPE 1974, Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/SEFPO), and the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) signed a petition calling on management to take a stand against privatization of hospital services.
