STRATFORD, ON –/COMMUNITYWIRE/– A new report on Ontario’s hospital staffing and capacity challenges warns that the current crisis will only worsen over the next four years due to a failure of planning by the Ford government.
The Hospital Crisis: No Capacity, No Plan, No End cites latest data from Statistics Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health Information that illustrate troubling trends in the sector as staff vacancies and overcrowding increase.
CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospital Union (OCHU/CUPE) will be releasing the full findings of the report at a media conference in Stratford on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
Drawing a sharp contrast with the government’s inadequate plan as the hospital sector lurches into a deeper crisis, the union will be revealing the number of additional hospital staff and beds required in Stratford and Listowel/Wingham over the next four years to meet patient needs.
